More praise for Shannon Kirk's Method 15/33

J.G. Stinson of Foreword Reviews commends Shannon Kirk's Method 15/33, emphasizing that this "intense, character-driven, thoughtful, and emotionally satisfying" novel is not your everyday thriller.

"Kirk’s choice of such a protagonist for this crime thriller is utter gold."

"Should Kirk decide to do a follow-up novel, or even start a short series, such a move would be a welcome event. Method 15/33 is a solid winner."

Rita Lakin's The Only Woman in the Room: Summary and cover reveal

This October, mark your calendars for the release of Rita Lakin's memoir The Only Woman in the Room. Check out the cover and summary below, and be sure to pre-order your copy today!

Rita Lakin was a pioneer, a female script writer in the early 1960s when Hollywood Television was exclusively male.  For years, in creative meetings she was literally the only woman in the room.  In this breezy but heartfelt remembrance, Lakin exposes us to a long-forgotten time when women were not considered worthy or welcome at the creative table.  Widowed with three young children, she talked herself into a secretarial job at Universal Studios in 1962, despite being unable to type or take dictation.  But with guts, skill and humor she rose from secretary to free-lancer, to staff writer, to producer, to executive producer and show-runner, meeting hundreds of famous and infamous show biz legends along the way during her long and unexpected career.  She introduced many women into the business and was a feminist before she even knew she was a feminist.  Unknown to the general public, she reached an audience of millions week after week, year after year.
The relevance of her personal journey, charming yet occasionally shocking, will be an eye-opener to today’s readers who take for granted the abundance of female creative talent in today’s Hollywood.

Entwistle receives great reviews for The Dead Assassin

Vaughn Entwistle continues to impress with his latest, The Dead Assassin. SFcrowsnest reviewer Sue Davies writes:

"This seedy, dark and mysterious version of Victorian England is close enough to reality to make this feel genuine..."

"I enjoyed reading this book, mostly because I found it so surprising and because of the background it made the fictional aspects more likely to be real."

"The overall impression is highly positive and I’m looking forward to reading more by Vaughan Entwistle."

Click here for the full review. reviewer Glenn Dallas also praised Enwistle's The Dead Assassin:

"[A] fine example of the greater balance and precision Entwistle brings to the fold..."

"...It’s more confident, more tightly structured, and an altogether more enjoyable read [than his previous novel]."

"What could easily be overblown, overwritten, or overloaded with plot becomes a clockwork machine worthy of Jedidiah himself."

"Truly amazing and excellent read...The writing is outstanding. Best advice that can be given: Do not miss this one!" -Suspense Magazine

"Entwistle is a talented writer who has written an imaginative story with vivid period details and a compelling plot. I was hooked from the very first page and cannot wait for the next book." -Emily Brightwell

"This captivating paranormal is a curious mix of alternative history, with steampunk overtures, that will appeal to readers who don't mind a bit of genre blending...Entwistle's tale may attract historical devotees who enjoy famous authors moonlighting as sleuths, such as in Nicola Upson's Josephine Tey books." -Library Journal

TJ Turner rewrites history in Lincoln's Bodyguard

History buff TJ Turner re-imagines history in Lincoln's Bodyguard, which explores an alternate version of the Civil War--one in which Lincoln is saved from assassination by his brave bodyguard, Joseph Foster. However, Lincoln's salvation prolongs the war, and Joseph finds himself the target of a sinister plan involving the kidnapping of his daughter. The fate of his daughter--and the nation--now rest in Joseph's hands.

He has already received rave reviews for this debut novel:

"This novel provides a new take on a fascinating question: what would America have been like if Lincoln had lived? T.J. Turner provides an intriguing answer—one that reaffirms something I firmly believe—history matters. This is a delightful romp through an alternate history with an ending that catches you by surprise. It's a fully immersive world that sweeps you in and never lets you go." -Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author of The Patriot Threat

"T.J. Turner's Lincoln's Bodyguard is a rip-snorting thrill ride through an alternate history. Turner makes the 1870's come alive with intricate detail, jarring action, and whiplashing plot twists. A fun read!" -Matt Coyle, author of Yesterday's Echoes and Night Tremors

We're dying to read more of TJ O'Connor!

Our own TJ O'Connor's mystery novel Dying to Know has received the 2015 Gold Medal Award for Mystery from the Independent Publishers Book Awards (IPPY). Having been a finalist for the 2014 INDIEFAB Book of the Year, this latest award comes as no surprise. Donlay and Entwistle are finalists for Nancy Pearl Award

We are proud to announce that two of our authors are finalists for the prestigious Nancy Pearl Book Award! The awards ceremony takes places during the Pacific Northwest Writers Association's (PNWA) summer conference from July 16-19.

Phil Donlay's Deadly Echoes is the fourth installment in the Donovan Nash series and is sure to please suspense-hungry readers. Donlay has gained a strong following since his first novel was published in 2009.

Vaughn Entwistle's The Revenant of Thraxton Hall has also made it to the finals. This mystery-thriller hybrid is reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes, but much more daring and sinister.

We wish them both the best of luck at the Nancy Pearl Awards!

Whitney Bell Interviews Literary Agent Elizabeth Kracht

Whitney Bell put together an interview with me for The Antioch Voice, the literary journal for Antioch University Midwest.

In the interview Whitney asks questions, such as:

1) What's a typical day like for you?

2) What's your favorite thing about being an agent? And least favorite thing?

3) How many manuscripts do you read per year?

4) What's the biggest lesson you've had to learn from your work?

...and many more!

It's a fun interview--the kind I much prefer to do these days. We also get to the Kracht signature cocktail, the Blue Grasshopper:

Equal parts: Creme de menthe, Liquor 43, Coconut Milk
Splash of Blue Curacao
Shake over ice and strain into martini glass
Garnish with a slice of dark chocolate
Drink with a good book

I'm looking forward to meeting Whitney Bell at the Antioch Writer's Workshop in Ohio in July to test out my new signature cocktail.  For information on the conference, click here.

We Need Reviewers!

We need reviewers for my author M.E. Parker's Science Fiction novel JONESBRIDGE: ECHOES OF HINTERLAND (Diversion Books, July 7).

If you are willing to review M.E.'s book and provide a review on Amazon and Goodreads and/or your blog, please contact Chris Mahon at Chris can provide you with a hard copy or ebook.

Reviews are so important for the success of a book, so we very much appreciate your willingness to read and review JONESBRIDGE. Serious reviewers only please!

JONESBRIDGE falls at the intersection between Fahrenheit 451 and The Road. It is a story about loss of information and the onset of dystopia with elements of steampunk/enviropunk. In a landscape where the world's knowledge has fallen into ruin through disaster and war, a fractured society has rebuilt from known industrial-revolution-era technology, a stymied culture mired in constant conflict for remaining resources. JONESBRIDGE follows young characters Myron and Sindra as they dream of and try to implement an escape plan that could cost them everything.

Though JONESBRIDGE is considered an adult book, Myron and Sindra would appeal to YA readers who lean toward edgier YA.

A little history: JONESBRIDGE (formerly titled "Hinterland"--this title got snapped up during the shopping process) was a manuscript I read as an intern and sought out later as an agent because I couldn't get Myron's character out of my mind.
