Danny Gardner set to release "A Negro and an Ofay" spring 2017. Congratulations Danny!

At a time when racial tension is at a peak in this country, I can't be more proud to announce the sale of my author Danny Gardner's crime fiction book--A NEGRO AND AN OFAY--to Eric Campbell at Down & Out Books. Though Danny's book listing was changed to "Digital," it is in fact slotted for simultaneous release of both print and ebook in Spring 2017. Our journey to publication has not been without its racial challenges, and we so appreciate Eric Campbell for his vision in taking on Danny's book. Working with Danny--one of the most fiercely intelligent people I know--and reading The Elliot Caprice Series, has changed my life. I'm grateful for Danny's patience with me and for his taking the time to have lengthy conversations around race and culture, both past and present. Congratulations, Danny! And Thank You. Here's to Elliot Caprice!

Collecting the Dead by Spencer Kope: get your "shine" on

UPDATE: Kope has also been featured in the Chicago Tribune! Click here to read the full review. Highlights below:

"Kope...avoids the histrionic low road of serial murder fiction, using his experience to enliven the plot with the intricacies of profiling and detection."

"Kope's dry, unexcitable style, with its streaks of offbeat humor, further raises expectations for a 'Collecting the Dead' sequel."

Kope's debut thriller Collecting the Dead has been reviewed on BookPage by Barbara Clark. Here are some highlights:

"The shine in this book manifests solely to Magnus Craig" who "has a special ability, almost a second sight, enabling him to read traces left behind at a scene by any person, whether in footsteps or handprints."

"In Collecting the Dead, the first in a series, Craig and his team search for a serial killer who kidnaps and kills young women, leaving behind his own special signature...unmistakably colored (for Craig) with the killer’s individual shine."

"The author has mastered a conversational, dryly humorous tone..."

Suspense Magazine reviews The Drum Within

James Scarantino continues to impress with his latest novel The Drum Within. Read Suspense Magazine's review below:

Detective Denise Aragon is on the force in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her recent job involves outsmarting corrupt lawyers and judges in order to stop a celebrity artist named Cody Geronimo, who just so happens to kill people to use for his “art.” His latest victim is Linda Fager, wife of cold and calculating criminal attorney, Walter Fager. But for the very first time, it seems that Walter wants the police to succeed, and bring down the sick artist before he can hurt anyone else. Unfortunately, Marcy Thornton, Walter’s former protégé, is defending the killer with a passion.

Most of the police force know that Cody took his celebrity to new horrors. In fact, everyone sitting in court knows that on the night of the murder Cody called his attorney to actually inform her about what he’d done. This phone call is what Detective Aragon playsin court. Sadly, the judge rules that Aragon eavesdropping on a confidential call between attorney and client is illegal. Hence, the murderer runs free and Aragon is suspended.

As Aragon tries to keep her case afloat, Cody trespasses on private property and remains a vicious man. But Aragon will never quit as she deals with the subject of American Indian tribes, their property lines, as well as the social conflicts that crop up when dealing with the law.

A thrilling police story, this gives the real mystery buff a lot to absorb. A major look at justice in all its colors, this incredible author gives us good guys and bad guys and, cross your fingers, it might just be the start of a new series.
